If you’re vacationing this summer, there are a few essentials that you can’t forget to pack. In this post, we’re going to share the top items to bring along during your travels.

Sunglasses

A pair of sunglasses is not just a fashion accessory that can be included in our monthly subscription boxes, it can help protect your eyes from UV radiation. As a general rule, make sure you pack more than one pair. Before selecting a pair, consider the shape of your face. For example, if you have a square shaped face, choose oval or a cat-eyed style with a soft-edge frame. For a triangular shaped face, choose frames with a straight top-line and colorful frames.

Tip: When selecting a pair of sunglasses, choose frames that will complement your hair color and skin tone.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

It can be tempting to wear your favorite Louboutin stilettos while on vacation. But, if you’re planning to make it a night out on the town, your best option is to wear nothing higher than a 3 inch heel. There is nothing more painful than walking around in stilettos for a long period of time. When you’re away from home, it’s all about comfort, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise style for comfort – you can have both. Unless you’re walking a short distance from your hotel room to a restaurant within the hotel, wear comfortable shoes.

Jewelry

An outfit is not complete until it’s topped off with the right jewelry. Our monthly subscription boxes include an assortment of quality jewelry pieces including: rings, necklaces, bracelets and elegant earrings. Jewels from 5th Avenue Style are so versatile that it can be worn with any ensemble. Don’t forget to pack a jewelry roll. A jewelry roll is a great alternative to a jewelry box. This will help free up some space in your luggage. All you have to do is place your jewelry within the roll and roll it up securely. There are several stylish travel jewelry rolls that can be purchased at various boutiques and high-end department stores like Bergdorf Goodman or Saks. Some stores offer personalization where you can get your initials embossed.
Wear Breathable Clothing

If you’re traveling during the months of June – August, and you’re planning to spend time outdoors, pack breathable clothing, such as pants, shorts, hats and shirts. Breathable clothing will help protect your skin from the sun’s blazing UV rays. Choose anti-sweating fabrics that are breathable and fabrics that easily absorbs moisture, such as 100% cotton. Linen is also a good choice because it is a lighter weight than cotton and will help make you feel cooler.

Tip: If you can, plan your activities around the sun. Try to plan outdoor activities in the late afternoon or early morning when the sun is at its lowest point in the sky.

Sunscreen

The key to protecting your skin, especially during the hot summer months, is to protect your skin against burns. Choose a sunscreen that has zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, avobenzone or ecamsule. If you plan on swimming in an outdoor pool or exercising, make sure you get a sunscreen that is sweat and water resistant.

Tip: If you have oily or dry skin, choose moisturizers that promote skin protection. Just make sure it satisfies the UVB and UVA requirements to prevent skin burns.

Portable Mobile Phone Charger

Bring along a portable mobile phone charger. There is nothing more frustrating than discovering you have low battery power while traveling. A portable phone charger will keep you well occupied during flight delays. There are many stylish phone chargers that come in a variety of colors and prints you can choose from, such as ban.do.

Tip: If you’re a high usage user make sure you come prepared. Choose a battery charger that has extra long life (i.e. 10 hours or more).

The items above are just a handful of essentials you can’t leave home without when traveling during the hot summer months. And, one more thing, it’s important to stay well hydrated while having fun in the sun – even if you’re not planning to spend much time outdoors.
